The Curl Community Behind Nalorie

Nalorie exists because the curly hair internet has a texture problem: content described as “for curly hair” that was clearly written with 2C waves in mind. This site covers the full spectrum, from beachy waves to 4C coils, with the specificity those textures actually require. One writer brings curl science and porosity literacy. The other brings community-insider knowledge of 4C hair and the natural hair world. If you have curly hair of any type, at least one of them has written directly for your texture.

Maya Brown: Lead Writer and Curl Educator

Maya has 3B curls and has been researching curl science for over a decade: porosity, protein-moisture balance, curl pattern types, ingredient formulations. She is a science writer by profession, which gives her the ability to read a product’s ingredient list and explain what it will actually do to a curl pattern, rather than repeat what the marketing says. She is based in Brooklyn.

Her writing is always texture-specific: “for high-porosity 3B” rather than “for curly hair.” She cites sources when making product or method claims, acknowledges when the evidence is mixed, and applies the same critical eye to her own curl journey that she applies to everything else.

Curl type: 3B, high porosity, medium density.

Specialties: Curl science and porosity, Curly Girl Method and modifications, product formulation literacy, cut technique (deva, rezo), styling across climates.

Zara Williams: Contributing Writer and 4C Specialist

Zara has been natural since she was born, but only started treating her 4C hair with real intention after college. She got tired of curl content that used “for all curl types” as a disclaimer on information that was clearly written for looser textures. She is based in Atlanta and brings years of community knowledge and personal testing to everything she covers.

Her writing is for the part of the curly hair community that has been reading those disclaimers for years. Shrinkage management, length retention, protective styles for tight textures, what the natural hair community actually recommends: from the inside, with no apologies for the specificity.

Curl type: 4C, low porosity, high density.

Specialties: 4C and kinky-curly hair, protective styles (twists, braids, buns), natural hair care and LOC/LCO methods, Black beauty community trends, transitioning hair.
